Szczebrzeszyn and Dołhobyczów – the progress of works

We want to present the progress of construction- conservation works in Orthodox church of The Dormition of the Virgin Mary in Szczebrzeszyn (1560) and church of St. Simeon the Stylite in Dołhobyczów (1904). The renovation is conducted under the Project: ‘Renovation of historic Orthodox churches of Lublin-Chełm Diocese. Szczebrzeszyn. Dołhobyczów. Stage II”. The Project is financed from funds of the EEA Financial Mechanism, the Operational Program ‘Promise of Minister of Culture and National Heritage’ and subsidies from Town and County Office in Szczebrzeszyn. The Project has started on April, 1, 2008. On October, the 30th there was next stage acceptance of construction- renovation and conservation works. Based on the records prepared and the actual situation, it was stated that the works are conducted according to the planned schedule. There have already been four stage acceptances. In the church in Szczebrzeszyn it has already been finished:  plaster and exterior dressing (85,56%- the level of the progress of works),  windows and doors (100%). In the church in Dołhobyczów it has already been finished:  the walls above ground were renovated and strengthened (40%),  plaster and exterior dressing (6,56%),  stucco elements (37,59%),  works inside the church: floor lining, stairs, interior balustrades (19,74%),  preparatory works and making protection bands for the conservation works of polychromy (30,76%),  plaster was examined (100%),  walls were cleaned from damaged layers of plaster (48,27%),  wooden frames of the iconostasis were reconstructed (100%),  works in fence (51,04%). The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Ministry of Regional Development have positively endorsed next quarter (July- September 2008) report of the project realization. The project is realised by the Orthodox Lublin- Chełm Diocese with the partnership of the Norwegian Institute of Culture and National Heritage.
